Guest feedback: Wonderful visit and can't wait to come back. We loved the quaint village, the walking adventures along the coast, cream teas in town, the scarecrow festival, border collies everywhere, amazing swimming and rock climbing at low and high tide, and wonderful people. There is nothing remotely like this where we come from. And the home is so comfortable, bright, and beautiful. We wish we lived here! This is a beautiful renovated house in a charming, old-fashioned British village, located close (short walking distance) to a rocky coast that offers fantastic swimming, hikes along the cliff side from village to village, and many other potential adventures. Everything you would want for a perfect, relaxing vacation was present in the house, which is located right in the village next to shops and restaurants. You don't need to drive anywhere. But, those who want to see other big tourist spots can do so as a day trip. For those who like surfing, this home is located one village over from a center for British surfing (yes, they do surf in England). Beth and Buck, Brooklyn NY.

Guest feedback: Wonderful time with Friends. Ideal house for large groups, interconnecting, plenty of space for little ones to explore, and National Trust headland walk within seconds. Lovely pub across the road for a swift one. Really nicely appointed had everything we needed for a fantastic weekend. You can walk into Woolacombe along the beach which is about a mile, which all of the kids managed and the walk round Morte point is dramatic. Thoroughly recommend. Haddon family, Bristol.

Guest feedback: Wonderful stay in a fabulous location! 5 of 5 stars. We spent a few days in Mortehoe with close friends ahead of our wedding weekend in Devon - we wanted to spend a few days relaxing before all our friends and family arrived in Devon for a 4 day party! And this was the perfect place to do this... Dominic was incredibly helpful ahead of our stay, he gave us some great local insight and some suggestions to make our stay even more enjoyable. He was able to be flexible with our arrival and departure time, and there was a bottle of fizz waiting for us in the fridge - which was a lovely touch. It was clear that Dominic and Iona care about the environment - with solar panels and very clear recycling guidance in place - which we really valued. And the Buttery itself is beautifully designed with the kitchen really being the heart of the house. Thank you for a great stay! Travelling group: Large Group. Would I recommend this holiday rental to my best friend? Yes. Nil0227 at TripAdvisor.

Guest feedback: What a fantastic place. It was the perfect place for Liz's big birthday bash. There were more than a few tears of joy. I know that we will continue to talk the place up for months to come. Indeed if you ever get a cancellation or slight gap in booking whatever time of year just let us know. I think that many of the party guests would be up for a last minute break. Liz wants to do it all again next year. Kit L, Leamington Spa. Fabulous family and friends getaway. Children, dogs, family, great grandparents the houses accommodated us all. Great amenities and location. local pub made us very welcome. Spectacularly placed for some breath taking walks and beaches. The kitchen was just the place for us all to gather and share food and wine. facilities were fantastic. The bedrooms were a joy to sleep in. piano, games were an added bonus. A very relax place to spend time with people you love. Liked best: The whole thing. Liked least: not applicable. Jane L, Leamington Spa.

Guest feedback: We're loving Mortehoe and your house ...really fab. / [later ...:] Heavenly outdoors holiday location. We have just returned from this great house in Morteho, having spent 2 weeks there with friends and young children. The location is unbeatable, with the surfing beaches a fantastic walk down a scenic path with incredible views across the north Devon coast. We had 3 spectacularly beautiful beaches to choose from for crabbing, sandcastle building, surfing and boogie boarding...etc.....It was perfect! Our kids have rated this their favourite holiday so far ! Beating holidays in Greece and Ile De Re hands down...and we would consider it up there with the best. The house is lovely and spacious, very comfortable and well equipped. Only downside is the lack of outside space, which is why i am not scoring 5 stars, but really this is harsh as the house is perfect in every other way, and the location more than made up for this, as we spent the entire day out in the great outdoors, and the house is right in the heart of a lovely village (with a great pub across the road). We would also definitely love to go back next year. The owners are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this property and location. Loughrey family, London

The surrounding countryside is stunning with lovely walks along the National Trust coastline. We particularly liked the walk down to Rockham beach. Guest feedback: We had a wonderful holiday, worth it for the clifftop walks alone. Excellent accomodation and location in small village but minutes walk away from lovely clifftop walks, National Trust Land and large sandy beach and town of Woolacombe, great for kids with plenty of coves and rockpools to explore. Large kitchen, excellent cooking facilities and nice large eating area. Property easy to book - great information provided on local amenities and maps/information on area in house itself brill. Within very close proximity are three pubs, restaurant, fish & chip shop and village stores. Both the Chichester Arms & Ship Aground serve excellent food but the meal we all had at the Ship was one of the best we have ever had, also excellent fish & chips from chippy and local produce from village stories including great cornish pasties - my son said best ever. The coastal walks are second to none and a must for any walker and the accomodation/location represents a great holiday and I would recommend a visit even out of season. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the stay as well particulary the walks which are plentiful and varied, loads of different routes and circular walks, nice other beaches nearby including Croyde and huge beach at Saunton. Hopefully we will be down again some time in the future sooner rather than later and would certainly return to your accomodation. Thanks again for a wonderful stay I will certainly pass on the details to my friends. N P & family, Bunbury, Cheshire.

Guest feedback: We had a great time at the Buttery over New Year. The house is absolutely fantastic, so lovely, much more than we could have hoped for! A modern, spacious house was to be ours to enjoy leading up to the arrival of 2012. Free wifi [Buttery and Cromlech] and landline [Buttery] were welcome inclusions. Being able to bring our dog was brilliant & he enjoyed the walks on The Buttery's door step and will probably sleep a week now! The four blokes enjoyed Mortehoe's 3 pubs while the girls enjoyed the large well equipped kitchen. A late checkout on the final day was gratefully received meaning Laura could have a birthday lie-in before Ed scrambled his last egg for the foreseeable future. I found the Buttery on-line whilst searching for a house big enough for 5 couples for a 3 night new year break. I had an immediate response back from Dominic with a very detailed description about the property. The booking process was very easy, we just had to pay a deposit and the balance 7 weeks before we arrived. I was in constant communication with Dominic before our stay, any questions I had were answered within 24hrs. Despite this I was nervous before we arrived at the property as I was responsible for booking the property for our party of 10 and if anything was wrong with it I knew I would be to blame!! There was absolutely no reason to be nervous! The key pick up was very easy, and the house is absolutely fantastic! The huge dining table in the kitchen meant we could all cook and eat our meals together, we had a home delivery from Sainsbury's booked for when we arrived which was perfect as we ordered all the food & drink we needed on-line before we left. The utility room was perfect for the rainy days when we were all covered in mud from long walks and provided a bedroom for our dog! The bedrooms are all very generous in size and 3 rooms have en-suite bathrooms (1 bathroom shared between a double room and the TV room/sofa bed room). The house was absolutely spotless and beds very comfortable which is sometimes what lets a holiday rental down. The property is literally a 20 second walk (we timed it) to the nearest pub - The Chichester Arms, a 1 minute walk to the next pub and a 15 minute walk into Woolacombe. Summer would be a great time to come as the property has a lovely sun terrace that you can see the sea from. I would describe the house as very comfortable and homely and you could easily spend a week or more here as there is so much space, even with 10 people. Would recommend the house to anyone and we look forward to staying again! We will definitely stay in touch with Dom with a return visit in mind and will recommend Mortehoe & The Buttery to family and friends. Many thanks. Laura T., Malvern.

Loads of plates and crockery and saucepans which is so often the downfall of rental properties. It worked perfectly for our massed families with plenty of space even when the weather was not kind. We had a go at surfing, well not ME but the rest  of them, and went on lots of walks and saw clovelly and had curry on the beach and dartington glass and did a little tour of our childhood haunts at Fremington and instow and Arlington Court. Never a dull moment . There is such a lot going on in North Devon and I am sure that we will come back. Kate G, London

Cromlech House

Guest feedback: We came for a few days after New Year with children and friends. It's an unpredictable time of year for a seaside holiday - and Cromlech was perfect. Warm, comfortable, ideal for blustery walks and beach trips, and even better to come home to. It doesn't feel like a house that's made for the summer only. It's very spacious and stylish and elegant, but with none of the preciousness that that often entails. We loved the fact that each one of the rooms was big and light - have often found with large groups that someone gets the poky or dark room. Pretty much everything we needed was there - from the soup whizzer to the huge array of reading, the unbelievably comfortable beds and the kitchen clothes drier. We were cooking large, sometimes complicated meals, and the kitchen was very well equipped, and great to hang out in. There was something for everyone - playground for the kids, pub across the road, miles of cliff top walking and waves to watch or jump in. We would love to come back. Prof Abigail W. via Google+

Guest feedback: We are having a fantastic time in your beautiful houses. It's perfect. Even have some sun today. / Our week is sadly nearly over. It has been amazing. / Thank you for the swift return of the deposit. You and Iona have thought of just about everything to make The Crescent such a comfortable place to stay. You invite suggestions for improvements - my only comment would be that we only located one hairdryer between both houses which we did manage to share - a rather more powerful one in each house would have been good. I would love to return to the house and the area, there is still so much to explore. So hopefully next year we will be back. Thank you. Chris J and family, Bury St Edmunds. / TripAdvisor: “The Crescent offers outstanding accomodation in this beautiful part of the country”. We rented both properties at The Crescent for the whole family (16 in total) to celebrate Mum's 90th birthday. The accommodation is first class - modern, clean and very spacious. It is very well equipped and the large kitchen in The Buttery was perfect for our celebrations. The owner, Dominic, has been quick and efficient at sorting out our booking and answering any queries. Although we didn't get to meet him, he made us feel very welcome through his emails and is obviously very keen to know that his tennants enjoy their stay. The location is ideal, close to all the village amenities and just a mile from the beautiful beach at Woolacombe. The walks across fields and cliff tops are endless and there are places of interest to visit near by. We will definitely be returning. camus1953, Bury St Edmunds

Dominic was fantastic to deal with, being very helpful and organised, so much so that the housekeeping deposit is already back in my account. Cromlech house is in a great location on a quiet road, in the centre of the village. It was well cleaned and has an excellent family kitchen. Guest feedback: Traveller's Review: 'Excellent'. Upon our arrival at the Buttery the whole group (3 years-54 years) were really pleased with the accomodation. The children loved the toys and bunk beds, whilst my teenage daughter loved the 'den' bedroom with the double futon as it gave her privacy and a massive TV to watch all week. The Buttery kitchen became the adults evening drinking venue and also had everything you could ever need for preparing meals for a large group. The wetsuit drainer in the the utility was well used and stopped everything else getting wet. The pub over the road; the Chicester we found served the best food and drink. Also the Beach Cafe on Barricane Beach was really good. The owners were extremely helpful and attentive to our queries; I would definately recommend the Buttery and very much hope to return. Guest feedback: The perfect way to enjoy a large family holiday! It was clear that the holiday would go well as we were told absolutely everything we needed to know about the property by Dominic who was so attentive before, during and after the stay, right down to sorting out parking permits and sending us a book on the beach for the children before our arrival. Great pair of houses which gave loads of sleeping and living space but a kitchen big enough for 12 of us to eat in comfortably as we tended to spend time more in one house than another. Both houses lovely. Excellent to have a landline to use as the mobile reception is dodgy and the wifi meant that we could all keep up to date with emails on the ipads. Really to be recommended. Guest feedback: The Buttery is a well equipped spacious property which suited our group of 10. There is a fabulous kitchen where we could all sit and eat together in comfort and a lovely large living room. Bedrooms were also spacious with comfy beds and enough bathrooms to guarantee no queueing. The sun terrace is a sun trap with distant sea views and there is a balcony on the first floor where you can also just about see the sea. Mortehoe village is charming with great pubs, a lovely tea room, a well stocked local shop, and friendly folk. The coastline is beautiful and the beaches are numerous and varied. / We had a wonderful time at The Buttery. We thought it was a fabulous space and was beautifully and tastefully decorated. You provided all the equipment and information we needed and I can't see how you could improve on things at all. Our friends would have liked a tv in the livingroom but I was delighted to not have my evenings spoiled by one of those noisy little boxes. So thanks again for a wonderful holiday. Can I also reiterate how grateful I was, personally, by the way you have communicated with me throughout theprocess. You have been more than helpful and it made a difference. Guest feedback: Thanks for your email and also for returning the damage deposit so quickly - I confirm receipt. We are now home after a brilliant holiday. Morthoe is a wonderful, friendly village with everything we could need on hand and The Buttery made a very suitable base for our family reunion. We had many happy dinners there, taking turns to cook, including a chaotic extravaganza by the four 16-20 year olds! Very special for my parents-in-law who had not had their four grandchildren under one roof for many years. Getting the key using the code a good system and useful to be able to come in the back with the code because we were often coming and going at different times and one key would not have been sufficient Kitchen exceptionally well equipped - great selection of pans, sharp knives, boards, coffee and tea pots etc, gas hob and cooker great and much used, plenty of nice mugs and plates etc Ample hot water for showers in morning and later, and for washing and washing up. Lovely muted decor and comfy seating, and loved the water colour on the wall in the room I slept in! Location is perfect, pub and shops all welcoming, cliff walks spectacular (saw seals!) Car park arrangements all good - thanks for supplying the permits and my parents-in-law were glad to have the space outside the door Took the body board to the beach 3 times to add to our supply, and 2 stripy folding chairs were used for pic-nics by oldsters - couldn't have managed well with out those The information in the house was v interesting (read a history of Morthoe book and watched the videos - shipwrecks one fascinating) Dominic, your fast responses to emails in the booking phase, just before we went and while we were there much appreciated. Hope this is helpful and not too long! One day we would love to return. With best wishes, Jo H, Tring, Herts.

Guest feedback: Thank you, we all had a fantastic stay in Mortehoe - the house was spotlessly clean and beautifully laid out, beds were incredibly comfortable and there were ample bathrooms/toilets. Thank goodness for the utility room for the dogs and our boots. There was much more crockery and cutlery in the kitchen then we were expecting, so we didn't have to have the dishwasher on permanently! The board games and cards were a welcome addition, we wish we had found the table football earlier. Would also be good if you could put a bit more information on your website about the local shops - the deli next door had some pretty amazing ingredients including great local cheeses and sophisticated biscuits. I couldn't believe how much there was to do and see in the local area - so many local walks that I didn't manage to get round Woolacoombe and Ilfracombe to explore, I could easily have stayed for the week. All in all a fantastic bank holiday rental and thanks for sending the deposit back so quickly. Gill R, Bath.

Guest feedback: Thank you very much for a fabulous weekend. We had good weather on Sat and went round the point where my brother-in-law recalls being taken on his father's shoulders many moons ago. The kitchen was great and well set up and easily accommodated the prep of a 4 course meal for us all. Fish pies on arrival (we had fish delivered from Brixham). Sat eve: canellini/leek soup with truffle oil; rib of beef or peppers stuffed w borlotti/ veg various; cheeses from Ox Cheese co; tarte au citron or choc tart.................phew! Everyone had lunch at the pub on Sat and a fair few pints were consumed there over the course of the weekend so I hope we contributed a little to the local economy. Thanks for a very memorable weekend. JoJo G, Oxfordshire.

We started with a reunion of old and new friends from across the globe, and can envisage another reunion here soon as we couldn't have asked for a better living space for everyone to enjoy. The houses were wonderful and so well equipped with everything, it's difficult to suggest any improvements. My whole family thought it was just great and we have already agreed that we will be coming back next year. Even the weather was wonderful and the hospitality of the Chichester Arms was much appreciated (hopefully my nephews, nieces and Grandad (such a bad influence :) ) were not too noisy with the family banter ! We booked the Watersmeet hotel for a set course menu on Sat night just so we could all dress up, They were brilliant and the food was lovely too - worth recommending to future guests that are having a celebration. The beach is just across the road and so is the pub ! We had a lovely family holiday in a house which pretty much has it all. We would definitely stay again. If there is one criticism, and it's only small, it would be good if there were more towels and tea towels, one each is not enough. There is a washing machine but on holiday thinking about washing is not high on the agenda. But as I said overall excellent and definitely recommended. Jane C., Peterborough.

The house is clean, spacious, contemporary, comfortable and with character. Plenty of showers and baths for post-surfing. Well-appointed kitchen. Lots of cupboard space for food for a large family. Heavenly veranda that has a knack of catching whatever sun there is. Perfect for breakfast or morning coffee. Brilliant back-kitchen for hanging wetsuits, wellies, damp clothing etc. Airing cupboard for drying. The snug is lovely for telly or quiet time. Close to great surfing beaches - Woolacombe, Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton Sands - varied for different conditions. Lovely long and short cliffs walks with bird life, seals and dolphins. Mortehoe is sweet, with a well-stocked village shop. And a trip to Lundy Island is a highlight. Susan F, London.

Guest feedback: My friends and I trawled through many websites featuring houses for rent in Devon before creating a shortlist of 5 favourites. We then voted and Cromlech House came out top. Fantastic well equipped house in a picture perfect location. We found Cromlech House a terrific place to stay, in the beautiful village of Mortehoe. The house has great character, is large and spacious and met all our needs. It has a great sized kitchen for cooking, eating and socialising in. Great TV and Wifi facilities. The location of the house is ideal and surrounded by little shops, 3 pubs, a restaurant and a Cream Tea cafe ... what more do you need. We loved the house and were very comfortable in it. We thought the village was just picture perfect with all the little shops and of course the wealth of pubs. We had a lovely meal in the Chichester and another in Rockleigh. Also a cream tea in the little cottage and fish and chips from the takeaway shop so did our bit to support local businesses. We would certainly recommend Otter cycle hire in Braunton. We took bikes for the afternoon 1pm to 5pm for £9 each however while out called the office and extended our time to 8pm for just another £3 per bike. During July and August they are open until 8pm. We did a 16 mile round trip which took us to a cafe to be recommended in Fremington and back? The trail also runs past The Braunton Inn which is also to be recommended with it's large outdoor eating area. There are other both shorter and longer routes you can do passing places of interest and with many places to stop for refreshments along the way. We travelled also to Clovelly which was a beautiful and interesting village set in the side of the hill running downhill to the shore. We would also recommend a visit to the quaint village of Croyde which also has a great beach. Dominic, the owner runs a very smooth operation with excellent communication throughout every stage of the booking, the holiday and very prompt repayment of the security deposit after the holiday. We couldn't fault the house, the location or the service we received from Dominic. We hope to return again soon. We have friends who are looking to visit the area from Cardiff so certainly will recommend your house. Sheila M, East Kilbride.

We would love to stay again in the future so I will be in contact. / TripAdvisor: Beautiful and spacious houses in a fantastic location. 5 of 5 stars. All the rooms are decorated beautifully and are very spacious. It was ideal renting both houses for our group of 18. Everyone had a good bed (the couple of sofabeds were large and comfortable) and there were plenty of bathrooms. The village of Mortehoe is lovely with several nice pubs, a village shop and more. You can get straight on to the stunning coastal paths. Woolacombe is a short walk away along the road or coast path, although we tended to drive as we had picnics and bodyboards! We could have stayed a lot longer and would love to return. The owner's communication was excellent. Liked best: Beautiful, spacious rooms and sunny balconies. Guest feedback: Many thanks for your email and your prompt repayment of the deposit. We had a brilliant week, even with some rain! The young all had a great time and I managed about 80 miles of coastal walking so was really happy too! Abigail574, Chichester. ****Beautiful location, wonderful walking and beaches The Crescent provides a brilliant space for a large group. It is well equipped and really sensibly designed so you don't all have to be in the same area at the same time. It is important to note that there isn't a garden, but with the beach so close this wasn't a problem for us. If you are a group of 18 you would find sitting at a table in one kitchen a squash. Mortehoe is a lovely village with a great local shop, pubs and takeaways so you really don't need to get in your car once you arrive. There are lovely, small beaches within 10 minutes walk and the brilliant Woolacombe beach is only 15/20 minutes walk away. If walking, there are lovely walks which include going around Morte Point where we spotted seals! Abigail574, Chichester., via TripAdvisor. Reply from owner: Hi Abigail, Yes 18 people all dining simultaneously is the limit for chair space and elbow room. Seating up to 14 people or up to 10 people allows a less invasive table configurations. Glad you were able to find all the fun you needed without driving around! :) Dom

Cromlech House

Guest feedback: Lovely large house perfect for a getaway with friends. We stayed at Cromlech House with eight friends for the first May bank holiday 2013. Cromlech House was perfect for our needs, with large (some huge!) light bedrooms, and a great, very spacious kitchen to spend time in. The house is quite modern and very tranquilly decorated, spotlessly clean and well equipped. The only thing to note is there is no outdoor space, and the balcony off the first bedroom is not really large enough to use as a useful space a group of 8, though it is a nice addition and gets the sun all afternoon. The house is in a great location in the centre of Mortehoe opposite the pub and surrounded by outlets for a Devonshire cream tea and morning coffee. Woolacombe bay is easily walkable and we also spent time in Ilfracombe and Croyde which are a short car ride away. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful in making sure everything went smoothly from initial enquiry through the whole weekend. Dom gave us more information and tips than we could possibly use in a long weekend – we only wished we were there for longer! Would thoroughly recommend Cromlech House for groups of friends looking for a beach activities holiday, or families, for walks and relaxation – for all of which it is perfectly suitable. Views across fields of sheep at the back. You can walk along the cliff tops and if you are lucky you can see seals down below. There is a choice of good surfing beaches nearby, Woolacombe, Croyde and many other smaller bays (which are my preference). Perfect space for two families and the kids especially loved having the whole top floor to themselves! We were initially concerned about the lack of outdoor space but it really wasn't an issue as the headland and beaches are literally on the doorstep and there was plenty of room in the house for drying out wet clothes / wetsuits etc. In the heart of a lovely village surrounded by stunning beaches and scenery. Mixed weather but still managed 4 long days on the beach and several headland walks - was nice not using the car all week. Guest feedback: Just back after a glorious week in Devon. We loved Cromlech House and Mortehoe and were very pleased we chose it over Woolacombe. The scenery was spectacular and I had some superb walks with the dog. I think the Chichester will miss us! We found all the documentation to be really comprehensive. We all loved the house - the only change I might suggest is in the front room - I saw in the visitors' book that someone had suggested half height shutters to replace the existing blinds. I think that would be a great improvement and it would have been lovely to see the sky and the view over the top. But then I imagine the heat might build up without any shade so there is probably a good reason for it being the way you have it now. All was clean and tidy when we arrived, very well equipped - we had everything we needed - and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Cromlech House to anyone else. Amanda B., Tewkesbury. Guest feedback: I would just to say thank you, the house was perfect for our stay. Lots of room and very well equipped especially for a little boy. Ethan loved the trains so it was a great surprise when we found all the toys in the chest. Pleasingly the sun actually shined on Sunday, we spent a great day on the beach therefore the sun cream was required after all!!!! I would like to report a breakage, one of the small tumbler glasses was broken when unloading the dishwasher, nothing else to report. I presume the cost of the glass will be deducted from the £200 deposit before being refunded to me? R Mackenzie, Leicestershire [note from owner: we don't deduct anything from deposits for normal minor collateral damage!] Rachel Mackenzie Rating Review posted on 6 Jun 2016 My family and I visited Cromlech House to celebrate our mothers 70th Birthday. Before our visit Dominic, the owner, was extremely obliging insuring our stay was trouble free from the moment we booked. A courtesy phone call after booking explaining the procedure and what happens next was much appreciated. Emails were sent detailing the arrival process and also annotated numerous links to local area information. The house was delightful and delivered on all levels and much more. Having 3 floors it felt spacious. All rooms had high-ceilings and offered character features. The kitchen is the heart of any home and Cromlech House did not disappoint. Everything you could possibly wish for utensil and crockery wise, also available was a Stokke highchair, invaluable if you have a little one. The bedrooms were all clean and comfortable, the twin and master bedrooms were an extremely generous size. It was great having a bathroom on the both the 1st and 2nd floors for ease of all guests. There was a vast array of toys for young to older children, in addition, games for adults to play too. The village of Mortehoe is quaint and very beautiful, offering two pubs, one just across the road, and various other eateries, a shop and National Trust Cafe. There is also a children’s play ground near to a small museum. Woolacombe with its 3 mile sandy beach is a short drive or challenging walk due to a very steep hill on the way back!!!! There are numerous coastal walks form Cromlech House’s front door. I highly recommend walking to Bull Point lighthouse on a clear evening to experience some beautiful sunsets; also the coastal path to Lee for lunch. In summary, a great house and location for a family or friends gathering.

We spent a glorious three days enjoying the beaches of Mortehoe and Woolacombe. The whole group absolutely loved the house, and I'm so, so glad that we found you, and the house, again!! My friend Hannah and I, who visited the house those years ago, were absolutely wowed when we arrived and went round the house trying to remember what was where before, and how the upstairs layout in particular compared to what we remembered. As I expected from the photos on your website, the house just beautiful, and we love the way you've laid everything out and decorated, it's just the perfect Devon getaway, and we can't wait to visit again! The spreadsheet you shared with me for planning the rooming was very useful, and the information provided on the board in The Buttery in particular, was so thorough and helpful, thank you. Guest feedback: Home now after a great weekend - we really enjoyed Cromlech House! We will be back! / TripAdvisor: Perfect for a relaxing break. 5 of 5 stars. We enjoyed a long weekend at Cromlech House with a small group of friends. The House is very well appointed, and is in superb decorative order. Clearly there has been a lot of attention to detail and there isn't anything we would have changed! Dealing with Dominic was very easy and straightforward and the information provided to help support our stay was just right. The area itself is beautiful and Mortehoe is well positioned as a base to explore the surroundings. Without doubt we will be back! Travelling group: Friends. Would I recommend this holiday rental to my best friend? Yes. zski2, Bristol.

Guest feedback: Highly recommended, we will be here again. 5 of 5 stars. We rented this for us, our daughter and her family including 4 children from 1 to 13. The house was great and catered for all ages including small details such as tableware for a baby. The bedrooms were lovely and comfortable and the bathrooms felt quite luxurious especially after a day at the beach! The utility room is brilliant for chucking everything in and keeping beachwear including wet suits separate from the house. Between us we tried and tested all 3 local pubs and both take away options. The fish and chip shop has an amazing menu and was very tasty. We also found the post office very useful when we needed cash. Overall a great holiday in a great location. by EKOJ1981, Bristol via TripAdvisor.

Guest feedback: Hi Dominic, we had a wonderful family time in your beautiful house. Please pass on to Cath our thanks for getting it ready for an early check-in and for how spotlessly clean it was on arrival. We all commented on this and intended to feed it back to you on our arrival home. We have stayed in many self-catering places over the years both as a couple and as a family and yours is one of the very best. It was great to be able to sit around that big kitchen table and chat and the kitchen was so well equipped for a big group. It was also so nice to have so much matching crockery and cutlery. Three shower rooms were a real bonus. The house was perfect for our three generation holiday. S Rosson, Birmingham.

Guest feedback: Hi Dom, Thank you for letting us use Cromlech House last week. We had a lovely time and the weather was especially kind to us. Dogs loved the beaches and walks too. Very impressed with the section of woolacombe where they can be let off. Managed the walk down ( and back ) to Grunta beach three times and walked into Woolacombe twice. Not sure why, then, clothes seem a little tighter. Can only think it was all those cream teas. My favourite being the one in Lee Bay! The little cafe/ italian pizza place overlooking the beach. Not the cheapest but very nice! Many thanks and will certainly recommend to friends and family etc . Annette C., Stafford.

Guest feedback: Hi Dom, Just checked my account and the deposit has already been paid in, thanks for the prompt refund. I've been trying to think of any reasonable improvements that could be made to make the stay even more enjoyable, and I'm struggling a little. The bathrooms are immaculate and finished to a high standard. The kitchen is very spacious and easily seats 10 - ideal for two families we sat at the table on Friday evening and chatted till the early hours! All the bedrooms were comfortable and well equipped. All in all a fantastic place. Many thanks for making our stay enjoyable and will be in touch when we want to return. TripAdvisor: Spacious modern and comfortable house finished to a high standard in one of the best locations in the UK.. 5 of 5 stars. We stayed in Cromlech house last weekend - Friday to Sunday. Although we had only booked a two night stay the owner Dom allowed us to check out as late as we wanted on Sunday which made it a lovely long relaxed weekend. I have to say that Dom has been most helpful throughout the whole booking procedure, full of useful information and even asked for ideas of how to improve future stays - of which I couldn't think of many! Any suggestions I did make were welcomed and acted upon. We previously stayed at Cromlech in 2008 prior to Dom and Iona's conversion in 2010 when the property was a rambling 10 bedroom house in need of some TLC. Although we enjoyed our previous stay vast improvement has now been made and despite the fact that the house has been split in two still retains the feel of spaciousness with a breakfast kitchen that easily seats two families with children. The master bedroom is very spacious as is the twin room with additional sofa bed which makes up into a large double - ideal for children. The further two double rooms are also extremely comfortable with plenty of storage and comfortable beds. The two bathrooms - one on each of the bedroom floors are finished to a high standard with a really good shower on the first floor one and a bath on the second floor one. Other plus points to the house was the free wifi of which the children made good and constant use! Also lots of books and games are provided which gives the place a real homely feel. Although we spent most of the day times out and about it was lovely to come back to Cromlech in the late afternoon/evening for a home cooked relaxing meal around the large kitchen table and then a comfortable seat in the lounge. Needless to say this will not be our last visit to Cromlech house and hopefully next time it be a longer one! All credit to Dom for his attention to detail and excellent communication throughout. All in all a fantastic place :)) Anita G, Aldridge, UK

We found Cromlech a very peaceful retreat, whilst being well-equipped for a comfortable stay. I'm love Mortehoe, it has such charm and picturesque views! We would recommend the Grampus Inn at Lee for food, wine and the quiz night! You can do a beautiful circular walk from Mortehoe - we went inland on the way and via the coast path on the way back. Beautiful, relaxing house with great views and walks from the doorstep. Booking process very easy, owners responded to all requests. We hope to visit again soon! The Davises, Ongar.

Guest feedback: Great to b back. Family loved the house! Clare S., Dorset. OwnersDirect review: Fantastic house in a beautiful location. We were a party of 6 adults, 1 x baby and 2 x toddlers. We have previously stayed at The Buttery so we knew that we would not be disappointed with the property. The property is as the photos, although there are less photos of Cromlech on the website, don't worry the house is beautiful throughout. The kitchen is well equipped for catering in the house. The twin room on the top floor is huge and is great as a 'family bedroom'. The house overall is very spacious but has a lovely homely feel. The owner provided excellent customer service and quickly dealt with any queries, and the deposit was returned promptly. I would recommend this property (and The Buttery) to friends and family, and I know that the family who holidayed with us were equally impressed with the house. We hope to make another return visit at some time in the future. With regards to location the pub serving good food is opposite and the coast path (off road) to local beaches is about a minutes walk away. The kids loved the local beach with rock pools, down the bottom of the grassy hill. Mortehoe is a small village with a small village store, pub and beaches within a 10 minute walk (down hill). You can very easily spend a few days exploring the local area by foot. Clare.

Well equiped large kitchen made it easy to cook for 8. Beds were comfortable with good quality sheets. Lovely walks on Morthoe and handy for local amenities. Access to the closest beach was really too step for little legs and we tended to go to our favourite beach, Putsborough Sands. The buttery is brilliantly equipped and has everything you need in terms of cooking/catering for a large group. All the rooms are very tidy, great showers and even supply towels ect. I was over the moon when we got to Mortehoe and walked in to a beautiful, huge house with great bedrooms and amazing views. It was very clean and well looked after, it looked newly decorated and very well furnished. We stayed the first weekend of June 2013, and were extremely lucky with the weather. We walked to the beach every day. The trek back up the hill was a killer but well worth it for the location and the views- Plus made us feel better for lying around on the beach all day! Guest feedback: Beautiful house in very picturesque location. ***** Just returned from a week's stay in Cromlech House with my husband, some friends and our dog. The house has four good sized bedrooms, a lounge with adequate seating for the number staying and an extremely well equipped kitchen the focus of which is the huge table. We found the property clean on arrival and having been given comprehensive pre-arrival email information from the owner we knew what to expect to find and what to pack. The location in Mortehoe suited us perfectly. It is a very pretty, unspoilt village and just across the road was what we referred to as the ""extension"" i.e. the Chichester pub which catered well in terms of range of drinks and food (several veggie options). A short walk down the hill and we were in Woolacombe which had a superb, dog friendly beach. We spent much time walking and picked up the South West Coast path most days and enjoyed the weather and the views hiking to Baggy Point in one direction and Bull Point in the other. There was so much to keep us occupied locally that we only ventured out in the car once - a change of pub scene to the Thatch in Croyde followed by a walk along the beach at Saunton Sands. Again, both are recommended. We loved Cromlech house and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a superb location to base a get together with friends. Guest feedback: Amazing house, place and village .The week we spent at The Buttery was fantastic firstly due to the weather treating us kindly but also because the house was so beautiful, spacious, comfortable and in the heart of the beautiful village of Mortehoe. There was everything needed for a family of 7 and more. The house has been expertly and lovingly decorated, fitted and thought out, so much so that it felt very special to stay there. Thank you very much to the owners Dominic & Iona, you have created a wonderful house for all to enjoy !! Fantastic communication and information given by the owners. I would recommend wholeheartedly the house, the village and the owners. All in all the perfect holiday. Elaine D., Manchester.

Guest feedback: A perfect house to enjoy friends' company - eat drink and be merry. I wanted to say a huge thank you for letting us use your house. It was absolutely perfect for our group and felt very homely. In fact so much so that we are hoping to buy somewhere similar. But it really is an exceptional place with stunning beaches and coastlines right on your doorstep. Everybody commented on how nice the house was and everybody had a great time. A huge thank you once again for all your help in making it such a brilliant weekend. and I look forward to the next occasion when we are looking for a break in North Devon as I will definitely be looking to stay in the house again This house was the chosen spot for a lovely 30th birthday weekend. Friends met from around the country and we all felt very at home in the beautiful space that this clean contemporary house provides. We had a mixed group with 2 young children under 2. The 3 story dwelling allowed us to put the kids to bed and enjoy the evenings mainly in the kitchen cooking, eating, having some great chats a few games and of course a few glasses of wine. The kitchen/dining room made cooking all meals a real pleasure. The house has a great situation and we walked both days along the coastal path to Woolacombe beach where a few warming games were played in the not so bright weather - which didn't stand in the way of a thoroughly enjoyed weekend. Dominic thank you so much for all your help when booking this location we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely think of returning. A great place! Ben and Sarah, Chudleigh, Devon.

Guest feedback: A lovely house ***** Possibly the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in. It is a very spacious, stylish and well-equipped house in a pretty village with good pubs, an excellent chippie, a useful general store for basics and a children’s playground. With three bathrooms, a downstairs loo and a massive kitchen it was ideal for our three generation family holiday. You are minutes away from some lovely coastal walks and it’s a 15 minute downhill walk to the lovely sandy beaches at Woolacombe which offers traditional seaside fun without the “tat” that often goes with it. Highly recommended. Wythallman , Birmingham , via TripAdvisor.

Guest feedback: A beautiful place which easily met and exceeded the needs of our group. We stayed a week in this beautiful home. All beds were comfortable, bathrooms, kitchen and utility room well equipped.the general areas are spacious and decorated tastefully. The house is on a main lane through the village but were untroubled by any traffic and our home location is very quiet and rural.I found Dominic very helpful, courteous and prompt in any and all communications. There are some beautiful walks from the door. Woolacombe is walkable for adults and older children and the local pub across the road is recommended but best to book to ensure a table if eating as it get very busy. Lynmouth and Lynton are well worth a visit as children ours loved the train and water canons in the gorge and as big chIldren they still enjoyed both. Jane P., Sheffield.

Guest feedback: “Perfect place for a group in stunning area!”. 4 of 5 stars. I organised a stag group to stay at The Crescent for the weekend and it was perfect. The adjoining houses are perfect for a big group and the place has been fitted to a high standard. The information and tips from Dom is the lead up to the weekend were excellent and I would definitely recommend the Crescent to other large groups. Mortehoe itself is a very picturesque village with loads of sea-based activities on offer at the many beaches including the amazing Woolacombe Bay. Can't recommend the area and The Crescent enough, it was a FANTASTIC weekend! Traveling group: Friends. Would I recommend this vacation rental to my best friend? Yes. Guest feedback: “Lovely lovely place for a family holiday” 4 of 5 stars. A very well-equipped house in a great Devon village, with choice of pubs and other eateries. Sadly we weren't able to access the local beach because of rockfalls (steps now mended) but our party (me, my daughter and her family of 2 small children and my son and his wife) had a great week nonetheless. The two children shared a lovely sunny room equipped with toys and books which made all the difference to their enjoyment and therefore to ours. Mobile phone reception is not great in the area but that is balanced by the easy access to broadband. 5 of 5 stars Ease of booking, 5 of 5 stars Directions to the property, 5 of 5 starsKey pickup/access to the property, 4 of 5 starsOverall condition, 5 of 5 starsQuality of bedding/mattresses, 5 of 5 starsCleanliness of bathroom, 4 of 5 starsQuality of facilities/amenities, 5 of 5 starsService. hintonbelle, Swindon via TripAdvisor

Guest feedback: “fantastically equipped and really conveniently village central.” *****/5 Reviewed 13 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015 This is a beautifully restored and really well equipped house right in the centre of the village of Mortehoe --directly opposite (20 yards !) from our Favourite Pub --The Chichester which does excellent meals and great ales and wines. It is quite clear that a great deal of thought has gone into the restoration and fitting out of the house. We are keen cooks and everything we could possibly need was there---and it was all very high quality , even down to a stainless steel cafetiere ! --stops breaking glass ones ! We have been holidaying in the area for some 25 years and know the area well, so we were absolutely delighted to come across this really comfortable house. Loads of books to read --you'd need to be there for years to read them all! Beds were very comfortable. There is parking on the front of the house and the owner arranges parking in the local car park for other vehicles Easy to unload straight into the front door. We really look forward to making a return visit. Easy access ( driving) to some marvellous beaches and lots of excellent national Trust walks ---virtually straight out of the front door ! Guest feedback: “Comfortable, elegant, practical, restful and delightful family accommodation” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 1 week ago for a stay in September 2015 The Buttery offers perfect accommodation for parents with a large flexible party of young people in their twenties. There are plenty of spaces to chill. We all love the spacious balcony, especially for a long lazy breakfast in the sun and shelter after an energetic cliff run to Bull Point and back via Morte Point, or an early morning dunes bootcamp, or surf, or swim. And lunch in the sun. And the downstairs sitting room and the main bedroom balcony are lovely for sun and afternoon tea. The pub is good for a drink and the cream teas are very popular. The shop has everything you need, especially breakfast croissants. And a supper of fish and chips is a must, but they also sell very good fish to cook at home. So, if you want to relax and enjoy plenty of outdoor activity, this is perfect accommodation. Guest feedback: “Amazing Holiday - Can't Wait To Come Again” 5 of 5 stars. A group of 9 of us stayed here at The Buttery as a holiday to celebrate the end of our university term. All of us agree it was a better week than any of us could have imagined - we were unbelievably lucky with the weather, with sun nearly every day - but even on the first day, which was foggy and wet, we had a fantastic time. The house is beautiful, very well equipped and spacious - not only does it sleep ten, but also accommodates them well, so all of us could sit around inside happily without any treading on toes! The views are also spectacular from here. As stated, the beach is only 20 minutes walk away - closer, if you feel like clambering over some rocks - and Barricane Beach is the closest to the house, which we found just as beautiful, but much less crowded on warmer days, than Woolacombe. The village is lovely, with pubs, takeaways and corner shops available to meet our every need. On top of everything else, the owner Dominic was incredibly helpful and friendly, and always replied to all our questions and queries quickly. acbockmuehl, Cambridge, via TripAdvisor

The lounge turned into an x-box room when it was wet or early in the morning and our kids enjoyed having their own spacious rooms.I was very happy to escape on coastal walks, and the drive down to the beach with a load of wet suits and body boards was very quick and easy. The rooms are all good sizes and the house well equiped and very comfortable for two families. A big plus was having bedding and towels provided. The house is ideally located in the centre of mortehoe which offers all the amenities including several pubs and the best cream teas locally at Town farmhouse. The village shop offers a great selection of local food and the fish from the chip shop which has recently been taken over was amazing. The house does not have recreational use of the garden but with the park in the village, the headland across the road and the beaches within 5-10 min walk down the hill this was never an issue.
